Learn About Each of our Legacy Offering Initiatives

The 2023 Legacy Offering is going towards fulfilling three key initiatives:

  1. Local and Global Initiatives, including Rose Church, a Winnipeg church plant, and Helping Hands Kenya, our long-term missions partner,

  2. Technological upgrades to our Children’s and Youth Ministry spaces,

  3. Church vitality initiatives, at the discretion of the Steering Committee.

Here is a breakdown of each of those categories.

1. Support for Rose Church in Winnipeg

Rose Church is a young church plant in Winnipeg that has spent the past two years meeting in the Polo Park Cineplex. Rose Church is a vibrant community with a deep passion for seeing God’s Kingdom continue to grow in Winnipeg. Having recently moved into a facility of their own in Transcona, Rose Church is at a critical juncture as they establish deep roots in their community and navigate the logistical challenges of being in a new facility. At Soul we desire to be a Kingdom-minded church that loves our city, by giving a gift to a young church we live into our family value that “we believe we can make a difference.” A portion of this year’s Legacy Offering will support Rose Church in this important time of their development. Approximately 10% of the Legacy Offering will support Rose.

2. Support for Little Hands School in Kenya

Founded in 2006, Little Hands Kenya (a ministry of Helping Hands Kenya) offers an inclusive education program for preschool and primary school children with intellectual and physical disabilities. Little Hands School gives these children the opportunity to go to school alongside other kids and provides support and encouragement as they learn and take part in the various aspects of school life. There are about 200 children in the school, with a quarter having significant and complex needs. Over the years, feedback from parents has been very positive as they see their children flourish in a caring and supportive environment. The founders of Little Hands Kenya, Bernie and Celia Mascher, have been long-term missions partners of Soul Sanctuary and we see this year’s Legacy Offering as an opportunity to make a significant impact, over and above our regular support. A part of our Legacy Offering will support the purchase of playground equipment and new technology for their computer lab.

3. Upgrades to our Children’s and Student Ministry Spaces

The majority of the audio and visual equipment in our Children’s and Student ministry rooms is original to Soul Sanctuary from 2004 and needs to be upgraded (if you have a child or student who uses these rooms, you’ll likely have heard about the difficulties caused by these systems in recent years). The necessary upgrades in the Student Center include a new soundboard, subwoofer, speakers, and video projection solution. Contributions from the 2022 Legacy Offering served to install a new speaker system in the Soul Kids room, however a reliable visual solution for videos and slides will be implemented in 2024. These upgrades will reduce technological disruptions to the many ministries that use these spaces.

4. Church Vitality Initiatives

2023 has been a year of growth at Soul. We’ve seen growth in our average Sunday attendance, our total number of Servant Leaders, our Life Group enrolment, our community facility usage, and our General giving. While these growth metrics have been encouraging, we’ve also invested significant financial resources into our day-to-day operations and the upkeep and improvement of our facility at 2050 Chevrier Blvd. This year a number of notable expenditures incurred were the the installation of a new video camera security system, the recruitment and training of our facility team in a competitive post-Covid labour environment, and unexpected maintenance costs related to servicing our Facility as it nears its tenth birthday. A part of our Legacy Offering will expenditures in our 2023 operating budget at the discretion of the Steering Committee.
