An intentional season of spiritual formation, mentorship, ministry development, and community.
This 9-month journey is designed to invite young adults (18-25) into a season of intentional formation to deepen their faith, be equipped through mentorship, experience and develop local church ministry leadership, all while growing in community with their cohort.
Program Details
-
FORMATION
We are always being formed - whether intentionally or unintentionally. Our lives are shaped by the rhythms we choose and the voices we listen to. Throughout the year, our Formation cohort will be challenged to step into a life of intention to partner with the Holy Spirit and pursue formation into the likeness of Jesus.
This will be facilitated through things like classes, intensives, learning and developing spiritual practices/disciplines, biblical study, retreats, and rhythms of rest and reflection.
-
MENTORSHIP
A regular pattern of the apostles and early church was raising up the generation that would go on after them. This was important for both discipleship and ministry leadership. We were never meant to walk this journey alone.
Over the course of the year, cohort members will receive weekly mentorship from the Soul Formation directors. These 1-on-1 relationships will be opportunities to seek guidance, accountability, and support for both personal growth and vocational discernment.
-
MINISTRY LEADERSHIP
Every follower of Jesus is called to build the church. The Soul Formation year allows our cohort members an opportunity to discover and develop their unique gifts through hands-on ministry experience. From Sunday gatherings, mid-week ministry, and community outreach, cohort members will serve and learn alongside ministry leads and contribute meaningfully to the life of Soul Sanctuary and our city.
More than a role to fill, this is an opportunity to grow in leadership, character, and confidence as we explore how God wants to use us to serve His people, both inside and outside the church.
Cohort members will spend approximately 5 hours in office, planning ministry alongside a ministry lead, and approximately 4 hours of Sunday serving every other week.
-
COMMUNITY
The Christian life was never meant to be lived in isolation. The community and diversity of the church is one of the gifts we’ve been given in Christ and a way we reflect him to those in the world.
Throughout the year, participants will journey alongside others in a committed Formation cohort. We are unified in Christ and our pursuit of him, and our unique and diverse personalities allow us to reflect him more fully together.
In order to grow as a cohort we’ll gather for weekly evening sessions, sit in classes with one another, go on retreats, participate in team-building activities, and share the occasional meal. When we gather in community, Christ is formed in and amongst us, faith is deepened, and lasting friendships are formed.

What does a typical week look like?
Each week during Soul Formation, we have set days and times where we come together as a cohort for our weekly sessions and for church. These times for the 2025/26 Formation Year are:
Tuesday Evenings - 6:00-9:00pm
Thursday Mornings - 9:00-11:00am
Sunday Mornings - 8:30am-12:00pm
On a Sunday morning, Soul Formation participants will alternate between serving in a ministry area and sitting in the gathering.
Two other key weekly components:
Ministry hours (approx. 5 hours)
1:1 Director Meeting (approx. 1 hour)
To accommodate each participant’s schedule, these hours are not set by the directors, but will need to be arranged by each cohort member. These need to fall in regular office hours and planned with your ministry lead and Formation Directors.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
This year is for anyone 18-25 who desires to grow in their relationship with God and others. Whether you’re working, in school, or looking for a gap year, we desire to walk alongside you and equip you for a life of intentional discipleship.
-
Many of the things that made the Soul Internship great have been included in Soul Formation. We decided, though, to make a program like the Soul Internship more accessible through lower costs, a flexible schedule, and less expected hours in the Soul Formation Year.
-
Yes. The cost for the year is $2000. This serves to cover things like class materials, intensives, retreats, team-building activities, cohort meals. This can be paid in two semester payments of $1000, or quarterly payments of $500.
-
Yes you can. We’ve structured the year to allow for flexibility so you can schedule time around your work or university schedule. The only set days/times of the week are Tuesday evenings (6-9PM) and Thursday mornings (9-11AM). All other dates (intensives, retreats, etc.) will be communicated in advance to allow time to adjust your schedules accordingly.
-
Most of the time we’ll be at Soul Sanctuary. However, evening sessions will be at a Formation Director’s house, and retreats and certain team-building activities will be off-site.
-
Application deadline is September 5th
-
We would strongly encourage starting Soul Formation from the beginning, as our classes often build off each other, along with allowing more time for the whole cohort to get to know one another. However, this would ultimately be determined on a case by case basis.
