3 Things to Know About Life Groups at Soul

We’re excited for our Life Group launch Sunday coming up on September 18! This is the Sunday that our Life Group database goes live and when our community has the opportunity to register for a Fall Semester group. If you’re new to Life Groups at Soul, here are three things about them that you should know.

  1. All Life Groups are all about connection

Life Groups have one, simple purpose — to bring people together. We believe that God created us to live in community with others and that only then can we experience the full life He intends for us. We believe that life change happens in the context of relationships and that by growing deeper in relationship with one another, we can grow deeper together in our relationships with Jesus. It’s clear that meaningful relationships can be hard to find, as a society we’ve never been so connected, yet so lonely. Life Groups exist to make life-changing relationships accessible to all people.

The Fall Life Group semester runs for 13 weeks. It’s a short commitment that allows you to get a feel for the group and to begin making social connections within the Soul Sanctuary community. Our groups break over Christmas and relaunch in Winter 2023 where you can choose to stay with the same group or try a different one.

  2. Life Groups are our front line of Pastoral Care

It’s through living life together that our problems become smaller as God uses others to bring support and encouragement into our lives. Life Groups become a place where others don’t just know your name, but care about what is happening in your life and want to support you in your spiritual journey. Our goal is that life group members become friends who celebrate each other’s accomplishments, who support each other in difficult seasons, who pray for one another always.

We were not made to do life alone. God created us for community, and Life Groups provide a place to connect with others, share life, and grow in faith together.

  3. Life Groups vs. Discipleship Groups

You may notice that we often talk about both Life Groups and Discipleship Groups. So what exactly is the difference? Life Groups are small groups of people (usually 8-12) who gather around a common activity for the purpose of growing in relationship with each other and with Jesus Christ. Whereas Discipleship Groups are intentional single-gendered groups of 2-5 people that meet throughout the year to grow in likeness to Jesus and encourage, challenge, and hold each other accountable on the journey of Christian discipleship. Where Life Groups are intended to help build community connections, Discipleship Groups have a specific focus on spiritual development and Christian maturity.

Our Discipleship Groups launch on the same day as our Life Groups. If you’re looking to grow in your relationship with Jesus this coming semester, keep your eyes open for our Discipleship Groups.
