What is Soul Graduation, and Why Do We Celebrate It?

Do you remember the day that you graduated from middle school or high school? Maybe it was five years ago or maybe it was fifty, but I’m sure that if you did graduate, you probably have some memory of it! The sense of accomplishment after years of studying, the joy of celebrating with your friends, the mixed feelings of fear and excitement as you stepped out into whatever journey was next for you.

High school graduation is a big deal, it’s the culmination of years of hard work and we believe that it needs to be celebrated! In fact, we think that in a world that’s full of negativity that the Church should take every opportunity to bring light, joy, hope, and celebration.

Author and Pastor Jon Tyson writes about celebration being the proper response to our cynical culture: “Celebration is explicit. It’s defiant. Not only does it recognize who God is and what he is doing, but it also calls for a response. Celebration is a godly defiance in a culture of doubt.”  We believe that celebration is an important part of our faith, it’s actually a theme that comes up more than 100 times in scripture. One of the ways we can live out a culture of celebration is by celebrating and honouring our Grade 12 graduates! Not only are we celebrating the fact that they completed high school, but we’re also celebrating what God has done and is continuing to do in and through them.

We have seen so much growth in our current group of Grade 12 students in the past few years. They have all taken next steps in their faith, over half of them serve regularly at Soul Sanctuary, and we know that God has used many of them to further His Kingdom. We could not be more proud of what they have done and we are even more excited about how God will continue to use them in the future!

“Whenever we take time to celebrate, whether personally or communally, we are bringing the glory of God into the brokenness to the world around us. We’re accurately representing the God we serve and offering tangible grace to the world” — Jon Tyson

We invite you to join us for a formal evening of celebration on June 17, 2022 as we celebrate the Soul Sanctuary High School class of ‘22.
