Missions Partner Update: Taveta and Tunyo (Kenya, World Vision)

World Vision has been a Soul Sanctuary partner for nearly 10 years. Our church community currently supports over 300 children and their families in the communities of Tunyo and Taveta in Kenya, with 162 children sponsored in Taveta as part of the World Vision Chosen event which took place in Fall 2019. Chosen is a new initiative from World Vision that allows sponsored children to pick their sponsor, reversing the norm of the child sponsorship process.

2020 and 2021 have been challenging for the children and families in the communities of Taveta and Tunyo Kenya. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have dramatically impacted farmers, businesses and the general well-being of the community. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the UN and other humanitarian partners, World Vision has worked hard to prevent the spread of COVID, while still maintaining their humanitarian and missions commitments in these communities. In partnership with local faith and community leaders World Vision was able to ensure that local health facilities were supported, that community members were cared for financially and that sanitation stations were set up.

A special effort was made to ensure that children were protected in order that they could continue their studies through home-based learning. Children are now back in school, and the support of Soul Sanctuary has provided personal protective equipment and other health and academic supports so that children can return to school. The below report provides a deep dive on how Soul Sanctuary’s partnership has made a difference in Kenya.

Soul Sanctuary is transforming children’s lives in Taveta and Tunyo, in answer to God’s call, providing for some of the most vulnerable children around the world. - Chris Schroeder (World Vision Canada)

We invite you to join us on December 5 and 12 for a two Sunday event which celebrates our partnership with World Vision and provides opportunities for you to be in touch with your sponsored child this Christmas season.
