This Sunday

“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
― J.K. RowlingHarry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

What to do? Which way to go? What career path do I take? What school do I go to? Who do I marry? It appears that there are so many options and choices when it comes to decision making in our lives. Some people live life by the moment and keep changing their minds regarding decisions worried that they have made the wrong one. Others are paralyzed by fear and refuse to make any decisions of any kind.

The Old Testament provides valuable lessons of making wise choices in our lives. In Genesis Lot made a choice as to where to live, and as a result he experienced war and kidnapping and oppression and torment by the ungodly citizens of Sodom. He also lost all of his possessions, experienced the death of his wife, and committed incest with his daughters.

King David chose to commit adultery with Bathsheba, and as a consequence he suffered the death of his infant son, had a daughter molested by her half-brother, who was later murdered by her vengeful brother. David experienced a rebellion led by that son, who shamed him publicly, and whose eventual death brought even more grief to David.

Needless to say the choices we make greatly affect our lives and the lives of those who are the closest to us. So join us this Sunday at 9:09am or 11:11am as we look at the book of Proverbs for some suggestions for in making wise choices and what to do when we have made the wrong choice!

“For every action there is a reaction, and for every choice there is a consequence.”
