Scripture is clear: "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins" (Acts 2:38). Baptism is found throughout the scriptures as an act of dying to ourselves and becoming one with Christ, repenting of our sin and committing our lives to follow Christ. When the name of Christ is spoken over us, we become partakers in His Name, and are baptized "into Jesus Christ" (Rom. 6:3, Gal. 3:27; Matt. 28:19). From that moment we belong to Jesus Christ. We are wrestled from the dominion of the world, and passed into the ownership of Christ.
Through baptism the past and present are forgotten and done away with. The old order is passed away, and all things have become new. We then cease to belong to the world and are no longer its slave. We belong to Christ alone, and our relationship with the world is mediated through Christ.
Who Should Get Baptized?
Is Jesus Christ your Saviour, your Lord, the one you wish to follow forever? Do you believe that he is God’s only Son, and that he died for your sins, was resurrected, and will someday return? Do you want to leave your past behind and embrace your new life in Christ?
Good, then get baptized.
