Associate Pastor


 SUMMARY: Performs the duties of the Associate Pastor.  His/Her specific role is to foster environments where both the faith community as a whole and the individual extensions of community can be challenged and formed. The Associate Pastor plays an integral role in developing the communal life that happens for the church along with shepherding the emotional needs of the community.  Along with the other employees on staff, the Associate Pastor shares the responsibility of dreaming about what Soul could be, and constantly finding ways to incorporate new ideas that bolster the mission of the church.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONIBILITIES: These are listed below.

 

Reports To: Gerry Michalski, Lead Pastor and the Steering Committee

 

Pastoral Duties and Discipleship:

  • Hospital visits, Funerals, Weddings and oversee premarital classes, baby dedication and follow up care of all people involved in the above
  • Maintain relationships with other area Pastors and Non-Profits
  • To oversee and meet with Life Group leaders to train them at beginning of the semester
  • To maintain open lines of communication throughout semester to check on the Life Group and offer constructive feedback for improvement
  • To evaluate groups and challenge each group to find ways to implement personal growth
  • Constantly doing research: looking for new ideas, materials and relevant cultural conversations
  • Coordinate meetings with the Lead Pastor and staff before the beginning of the semester to collectively plan the semester
  • Overseeing staff and effective follow up
  • Involved in monthly leadership meetings with the Steering Committee

 

Sunday Morning Gathering:

  • The “go to” person and representation of the Lead Pastor on the day of the gathering
  • Overseeing the Information Desk (411) and follow up with guests and newer individual’s to Soul Sanctuary.
  • Oversee building/facilities and ensure it is in order for every gathering
  • Oversee the welcoming, coffee, ushers and setup and take down teams.
  • Ensure facility is clean when closing.

 

Mentoring:

  • Oversees staff
  • Oversees Student Interns
  • Engaged in active visitation of members of Soul Sanctuary
  • Implement a visitation team

 

 

Missions:

  • Work alongside of the Missions Coordinator
  • Oversees all church Missions trips
  • Maintain relationships with oversea contacts

 

The Associate Pastor at Soul Sanctuary has a job that is characterized by extemporaneity.  Thus each week will look different.  For this reason, calculating hours from week to week can be both a difficult and subjective task.  In light of this, here are a few concrete expectations.

 

  • The Associate Pastor will hold office hours
  • The Associate Pastor will work four days of the workweek as well as Sundays.  The day that the Associate Pastor takes off  is to be decided in discussion with the Lead Pastor.
  • A significant amount of the Associate Pastor’s job should be given to the activities described in the communal section listed above.
  • The Associate Pastor will have the luxury of a flexible workday, but will often be expected to work some evenings.
